Former Russian Deputy FM Gregory Karasin, who still represents Russia in economic talks with Georgia, says that his country, which exercises effective control of Georgia’s two occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, “is closely observing the situation” around a well-known Georgian doctor Vazha Garindashvili, who was abducted by Russian controlled occupation forces on November 9.

Karasin told Sputnik news agency that the issue is unlikely to be discussed at his meeting with Georgian PM’s Special Representative in Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze tomorrow in Prague, as “it a topic for the Geneva International Discussions.”

Karasin says that he believes neighbourly relations between Russia and Georgia will be restored soon.

The day is not too far,” Karasin said.

Doctor Gaprindashvili has been in illegal detention for 19 days.
