Georgia nominated for Peace and Sports 2019 int’l award

Georgia has been nominated for the international organisation Peace and Sports 2019 awards for the best initiative of the year.
The award is granted to individuals or organisations who have contributed to the celebration of April 6: the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace through a #WhiteCard initiative or an event raising awareness on the use of sport as a tool for development and peace.
To mark its April 6 celebration, the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport organised a massive national mobilisation to raise awareness and promote sport as a tool for peace. Thanks to a country wide information campaign led by the ministry, the Public April 6 festival gathered over 1,200 people around multi-sport activities in a park of Tbilisi,” Peace and Sports reads.
The winner among eight nominees will be revealed through an online vote.

The countries participating along Georgia are Italy, Venezuela, Croatia, Greece, Israel, and Pakistan.
Georgia joins the world in celebration on International Day of Sport for Development and Peace today. Under the hashtag #WhiteCard, Georgian athletes have taken pictures to demonstrate their dedication to the "peace-through-sport movement".
Georgia’s seated basketball team took gold in the wheelchair basketball competition defeating the US team at the 2019 Marine Corps Trials in California. Georgia received 34 medals in various competitions of the Marine Corps Trials since its start on February 24.
