TBC Bank founder Khazaradze says his return to business is ‘very unlikely’

The founder of one of Georgia’s leading banks TBC Mamuka Khazaradze, who faces money laundering charges, says that his return to business is “very unlikely,” as he has “big political goals.”
He has told Mtavari Arkhi that “there is no chance of my return to business before we will change the current reality in the country.”
Khazaradze, who opposes the Georgian Dream leadership, has founded the civic movement Lelo and has plans to create a political party in the coming months ahead of the 2020 parliamentary elections.
He says that the current state leadership is unable to settle the problems the country faces.
Khazaradze is involved in the construction of Anaklia Deep-Sea port with the name of TBC holding.
Georgian Infrastructure Minister Maia Tskitishvili says that there is no connection between the Anaklia deep sea port project and the ongoing money laundering investigation involving the founders of TBC Bank. She says that Anaklia Consortium, had faced problems in attracting funds for the 2.5 billion USD project before the investigation was launched involving TBC Bank.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze says that statements [by the opposition and others] that the Georgian Dream government does not want the Anaklia deep sea port to be constructed are “cheap and irresponsible political speculations."
TBC Bank Founder Mamuka Khazaradze says that he has sent a letter he claimed he received from Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia and which allegedly included threats against him and TBC Bank, to London to be studied, while a copy has been handed to the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office.
One of Georgia’s top bankers, Mamuka Khazaradze, who has recently been charged in a high-profile money laundering case, has officially launched a new civic movement in Georgia’s coastal town of Anaklia, located near the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia.
