The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia advised citizens against going to Libya earlier today.
Taking into account the current situation in Libya, the ministry recommends to avoid air, sea or land transportation to the territory of Libya, where a civil war is currently being waged for control of the country and its resources.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia does not have the ability to help Georgian citizens in Libya.
The conflict began in 2014 among two rival blocs – the country’s House of Representatives and the General National Congress.
As a result of ongoing civil war, more than 25,000 people have been displaced and at least 100 people killed.
On 16-17 January, 10 people were killed and 41 wounded as a result of clashes in Tripoli, the capital of Libya. Women and children are among the victims, Libya’s health ministry has reported.
