Border management is of great importance. Since 2013, we have started the construction of new guard buildings. Several dozens of border buildings have been built so far. The support of the US has been very important.”
The Minister of Internal Affairs mentioned that there are harsh climatic conditions at almost every border crossing and the ministry will do its best to build additional buildings for the guards.
It is a great honor for me to open this guard building here at Khriani together with Minister Gomelauri. We have long standing cooperation with the border police and are proud of accomplishing ninejoint projects through the DTRA of the US Government. This partnership is very good not only for strengthening the territorial integrity of Georgia, but also for making a big contribution to global and regional security”, said Elizabeth Rood at the opening ceremony.
The facility was built within the framework of the infrastructural renovation project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and will serve an 18-kilometer section of the Georgian-Turkish border.
The construction was funded by the DTRA.
