Former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who has plans to come back to Georgia in several months despite, has accused his former ally, now a leader of the European Georgia opposition party, Giga Bokeria of doing “everything against Georgian and Christian traditions.”
Bokeria, who served as the head of the National Security Council under Saakashvili’s presidency, left Saakashvili’s United National Movement party after 2016 parliamentary elections due to the disagreement on the party’s future.
Bokeria, former Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava, several other members of the United National Movement and new faces created the European Georgia opposition party which was officially presented in January 2017.
When it comes to Mr. Bokeria, there is a fundamental difference between us. I am an Orthodox Christian, I wear a cross. Bokeria and several others have done their utmost to distance the country from its national and Christian values,” Saakashvili said while speaking for the Mtavari Arkhi TV about his future goals and the people he communicates with in Georgian politics.
Saakashvili said that Bokeria has had “a particularly cynical” attitude to everything Georgian and Christian.
Bokeria has responded shortly by saying that “he [Saakashvili] will soon declare himself as a victim of my nine-year governance.”
