German Chancellor Merkel sends kind wishes to new Georgian PM on appointment

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has sent a letter to the new prime minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia wishing him success in his “mission full of responsibility.”
The letter has been released by the administration of the government of Georgia.
Merkel said that German-Georgian relations continue to develop strongly in many fields, citing the cooperation in the Eastern Partnership and the NATO-Georgia commission formats in particular.
Gakharia, who previously served as Georgia’s interior minister, replaced Mamuka Bakhtadze in the post on September 8.
Angela Merkel has visited the occupation line in the village of Odzisi before leaving Georgia. Merkel spent half an hour in the village and took the opportunity to observe the territories beyond the occupation line through binoculars.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she is happy to see much progress in Georgia since her last visit to the country 10 years ago.
After a face to face meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and a meeting with part of te Georgian cabinet, she held a joint press conference with the Georgian PM.
The topics discussed at the meetings included the situation in Georgia’s regions occupied by Russia, the country’s European aspirations and integration and the deepening of the economic and cultural ties.

The German Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier has arrived in Tbilisi. Accompanied by his wife Elke Budenbender, Steinmeier is paying an official visit to Georgia for the first time as a President.
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson said in a letter to his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Gakharia that the UK will remain committed to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as to their “strategic partnership”.
