The Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will send a delegation to Georgia aiming to elaborate special initiatives for the country.

President of the IFAD Gilbert F. Houngbo and the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze agreed on future plans today at the Davos meeting.

The parties have emphasised the importance of the agriculture in terms of inclusive growth.

“40-45 percent of Georgia's population is employed in the agriculture and the sector amounts up to 9 percent of the country's GDP. We plan to send a delegation to Georgia in order to intensify discussions with the Ministers of Economy and Agriculture and figure out a certain initiative for the country,” Gilbert F. Houngbo said after the meeting.

IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialised agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries. Headquartered in Rome, Italy, the IFAD seeks to empower farmers in developing countries to achieve higher incomes and improved living. The fund has provided assistance to more than 460 million people around the world with low interest rate loans and grants of  $18.5 billion since 1978.
