Kakhaber Kemoklidze becomes chief of staff of new Security Council

Kakhaber Kemoklidze, the former Head of the Analytical Department of the Georgian Interior Ministry has been appointed the chief of staff of the country’s new National Security Council.

The staff of the Security Council will form an analytical centre, which operates under the Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Minister of the Interior Giorgi Gakharia.

  • The National Security Council is an eight-member advisory body, responsible for national security policy planning and coordination.
  • It is chaired by the prime minister. Its other members are: interior, defence, foreign and finance ministers, heads of state security and intelligence services and chief of the armed forces.
  • Georgia’s president-led National Security Council, which was tasked to discuss issues related to the national military strategy of Georgia, was abolished after the new constitution entered into force last year.

Kemoklidze graduated from Tbilisi State University in 2007. In 2005-2010 he worked in the private sector.

He started his career as a public servant at the Interior Ministry in 2011. In 2015-2018 he worked at the State Security Service of Georgia. 

Kemoklidze represented Georgia at the Geneva International Discussions and at the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings in 2012-2018 as well. 

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry announced that Kemoklidze's deputy, Mikheil Daushvili has replaced him as the head of the Analytical Department.
