Two arrested for using counterfeit $100 bills in Georgia

Georgian police have detained two for using a large amount of counterfeit $100 bills today.
Police have reported that they brought the banknotes from Turkey and used them in the region of Adjara, in western Georgia.
Police officers seized $10,000 in counterfeit banknotes as evidence.
The detainees face from seven to 10 years in jail.

Earlier in January, two Turkish nationals were detained in Georgia for the possession and application of counterfeit money in large quantities.
Law enforcers seized €6,000 in counterfeit bills from the apartment of the detainees.
The Ministry of Finance’s Investigative Service has detained three men for using counterfeit currency in East Georgia today.
Two Turkish nationals have been detained by the Investigative Agency of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia for the possession and sale of counterfeit money in large quantities.

One was arrested for attempting to misappropriate another person’s money several days ago. Police reported that the detainee promised an Iranian national to help obtain a Georgian ID card and passport in exchange for $7000. Initially, the detainee received 440 GEL (about $153) from the citizen of Iran. Afterwards, police officers detained him.
Georgian police have detained one individual for falsifying tax documents in the region of Kvemo Kartli several days ago. Police report that the detainee falsified a VAT (value added tax) invoice and bill of sale to show that he supplied materials worth 96,000 GEL ($30,664/€27,533) to several companies.
Three individuals have been sentenced for stealing 139,000 GEL ($48,331/€43,589) from consumers of Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank via a fishing scheme, announced the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.
Police have detained one individual for falsifying documents, which he later sold to 11 individuals who intended to benefit from the state compensation programme for people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, reports the Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry.
