Deputy minister of culture resigns, announces return to private sector

First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport of Georgia Mikheil Giorgadze has announced his resignation and stated that he will return to the private sector.
He said that he has done his best as the minister of culture and then later as deputy minister over the past five years.
It is time for new faces and energy,” he posted on his Facebook page earlier today.
Education Minister Mikheil Batiashvili says that “we respect Giorgadze’s decision to resign,” and wished him success in the private field.
Member of the European Georgia opposition Gigi Ugulava says that Giorgadze “was dismissed” as “most of the representatives of the Georgian culture stood on the Rustaveli Square these days, during Tbilisi Protests.”
Giorgadze, who was the director general of Eastern Promotions, a company dedicated to promoting world-class music in the Caucasus region and promoting Georgian music and artists abroad, became minister of culture in the summer of 2014.
In 2018 Batiashvili became the new minister of education and Giorgadze was appointed as his first deputy.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Mikheil Giorgadze was transferred to a Turkish hospital yesterday after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident on 17 November in Kvareli, Kakheti.
The Government of Georgia is undergoing a major reshuffle, where several ministries will be merged. The changes will be approved at the nearest government meeting after which the new Cabinet will be presented to Parliament for a vote of confidence.
The entire revised Cabinet must gain one third of total MP votes (more than 76) in order to be approved by Parliament.
The Culture Ministry needs "a new, modern, reformative approach”, and the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili believes Mikheil Giorgadze, an economist with a rich cultural background, can offer this.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has stated that all technical work has been completed to separate the Ministries of Education and Culture.
