Q1 2019: 918,400 Georgians spend 121.7m GEL on domestic tourism

About 918,400 Georgian Georgian tourists aged 15 years or more made 1.1 million visits (+11.9%) on the territory of Georgia in the first quarter of 2019, reports the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

People aged 31-50 were the most avid domestic travellers (37.6%). 53.4 per cent of visits were made by women, says Geostat.

About 28.3 per cent of visitors were residents of Georgian capital of Tbilisi, 16.8 per cent - Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, 12.8 per cent – Adjara region.

The main purpose of the majority visits (55.1%) was visiting friends/relatives, while the majority of the visits came from Tbilisi (average 298,800 visits per month) and Imereti region (213,600 visits per month).

The monthly average expenditure during the visits equaled 121.7 million GEL (about $44.50m/€39.42m)

As for the average expenditure per visit it has been decreased by 11.9 GEL (about $4.35m/€ 3.85m) and equaled 110.5 GEL (about $40.40m/€35.80m).
