Oil tankers hit by explosion in Gulf of Oman, Georgian sailor safely rescued among crew

Two oil tankers were hit by explosions in Gulf of Oman today. 44 crew members including one Georgian citizen were safely rescued.

Head of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia Tamar Ioseliani reported that the 50-year-old Georgian sailor is now safe and his family is being provided with information.

The Georgian sailor was on a tanker sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands,” she said.

The Front Altair and Kokuka Courageous oil tankers were hit by explosions that resulted in a severe fire. No casualties have been reported.

The causes of the explosion have yet been clarified.
