BBC to feature elephant from Georgian zoo in its TV series ‘Big Animal Surgery’ [VIDEO]

An elephant from Tbilisi Zoo, Grandi, will be one of the main characters of the BBC 2 TV series on Big Animal Surgery, as he has underwent two, very complicated operations in 2014 and 2018.

BBC has already released the section from the film which will be released on June 6.

The second surgery of extraction of a tusk took three hours in Tbilisi in 2018, with the involvement one of the world’s top veterinarians Gerhard Steenkamp and Adrian Tordiffe, a veterinary doctor responsible for anesthesia.

They came from South Africa for the operation.

The infected tusk posed a threat to the elephant’s health.

The BBC filmed the second operation.

Grandi needed such an operation on both of his tusks.

The first 11-hour surgery, was made in 2014 by British specialists.

Grandi was brought from Yerevan Zoo several years ago with both of his tusks damaged
