By-elections 2019: 117,227 voters cast ballots by 3p.m.

Over 117,000 voters made their electoral choices for the ongoing by-elections in districts across Georgia by 3p.m. local time, the Election Administration of Georgia has revealed.

In the latest update from the election body, 117,227 eligible citizens took to 12 districts open for elections of mayors, city council members and a member of the parliament.

Of the polling districts, the highest turnout was noted in the town of Sagarejo, in Georgia's eastern Kakheti province, where 257 voters amounted to a 56.4 percent turnout.

The lowest figure was reported in Tbilisi's Mtatsminda District, which is the only voting location serving to elect an MP during the by-elections. By 3p.m. only 21 percent of eligible voters - 9,226 of 43,908 - had cast their choice in the capital city's district.

Figures from the rest of the polling districts were as follows:

  • Akhmeta - 444 voters (36.4 percent)
  • Marneuli - 22,553 voters (22.6 percent)
  • Adigeni - 482 voters (42.9 percent)
  • Zestaponi - 16,737 voters (30.5 percent)
  • Chiatura - 13,908 voters (32.4 percent)
  • Tkibuli - 1,054 voters (29.6 percent)
  • Tskaltubo - 1,493 voters (35.4 percent)
  • Ozurgeti -1613 voters (31.7 percent)
  • Zugdidi - 39,678 voters (32.8 percent)
  • Khulo - 9,782 voters (40.6 percent)

The Marneuli, Zestaponi, Chiatura, Zugdidi and Khulo municipalities are holding elections of mayors, while members of sakrebulo [city council] are being elected in Sagarejo, Akhmeta, Adigeni, Zestaponi, Chiatura, Tkibuli, Tskaltubi and Ozurgeti.
