Prisoners’ employment project launched in Gldani prison

A prisoners employment project has been launched at Gldani prison and inmates planted three species of raspberry and sowed beans at a land plot especially allocated for the work.

The project was developed on the initiative of Georgia’s Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani, France-Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Agriculture.

Adult and minor convicts including those who are sentenced to life will be involved in the project.

The land plot where the convicts will work covers 3,000 square meters and is located in one of the yards of the prison.

The France-Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Industry will support the sale of the species and vegetables harvested by the prisoners and the convicts will get income from it.

The prison director said the inmates also worked at a small garden before the project was launched and said they felt better as they their mood changed and they feel more hopeful.

The new project has caused great interest among the inmates.
