New cultural, scientific research centre to be built on Makhata hill

A new, modern scientific research and cultural enlightening centre-museum will be opened in the vicinity of the Iveria Holy Virgin Mary Church on the Makhata hill in Tbilisi.

This will be the place with a mandate to carry out research and studies in full compliance with priorities declared by the Government of Georgia and the national idea of education, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated.

Strong Georgian state means a strong church, while a strong church means a strong Georgian state”, he said.

We greatly focus on the education and I am convinced that this place will be precious to all who love their motherland upon the implementation of the project”, he added.

Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II called the signing of a memorandum “a historic milestone”.

God bless this effort and God permit it to achieve noble outcome for the benefit of our nation and church", Ilia II stated.

Today’s memorandum envisages a cooperation of the parties involved in the construction and development of the scientific research and cultural enlightening center-museum.

Government of Georgia will ensure a due care and protection of church treasures that will be displayed at the museum.
