Only inhabitant of Gorsheghmi Gorge, Khevsureti helicoptered to hospital

The only resident of the Gorsheghmi Gorge of mountainous Khevsureti region in eastern Georgia, 76-year-old Mikha Arabuli, has been helicoptered to Dusheti hospital as his health has deteriorated.

Despite snow and severe weather conditions rescuers managed to land in the gorge and transported Arabuli to the hospital in a timely manner”, the Emergency Management Service of Georgia has reported.

The online media outlet Mtis Ambebi launched a campaign for Mikha Arabuli last year to build a wooden house for him.

The campaign ended successfully and the house the man had been asking for for several years was built.

Arabuli has been the only permanent inhabitant of the seven villages of the gorge over the past 20 years.

People visit the gorge only in the summer.
