Georgian police offer legal aid, shelter to runaway Saudi sisters

Employees of the Georgian Interior Ministry have visited two Saudi sisters at their temporary location in Tbilisi, after the sisters posted on Twitter yesterday and asked for help because of the possible threats they faced from their family members.
The sisters say that they escaped strict Saudi laws and suppression from their family members and requested help to find a safe country to live.
The women have been informed regarding the procedures which are mandatory to receive asylum in Georgia. They accepted to be transported to the refugee centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Migration Department to undergo the procedures,” the ministry reported.

The ministry did not confirm that the father and brothers of the girls are in Georgia to look for them, as was tweeted by the sisters yesterday.
The sisters will now go through the legal procedures for receiving the temporary shelter in the country.

Two Saudi sisters, who have fled their country and family, have tweeted that they are in Georgia and are in urgent need of UNHCR protection as their brothers and father have come to Georgia looking for them.
Georgia and Saudi Arabia are increasing economic cooperation by avoiding double taxation. This means that people or businesses working abroad in either country will not have to pay taxes in both countries, and will instead pay income and capital taxes in only one.
Maha and Wafa al-Subaie, two Saudi sisters who fled their country and family and sought refuge in Georgia, have just posted on Twitter that they are departing for a new country to start a new life. They have released a video showing them holding Georgian passports as they were provided with asylum in Georgia.
