Georgian, Bulgarian PMs meet, announce launch of large-scale digital project

Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov announced a large-scale digital project that includes the installation of a new optic cable in the Black Sea basin after a meeting held earlier today.

We should support all infrastructural projects regarding the development of European transport network including the establishment of digital connections and applied communication of the optic cable between Bulgaria and Georgia,” Borisov said, adding the project will be launched shortly and a new cable will be installed in the Black Sea basin.

It will allow the entire region to enjoy high-speed internet and digital infrastructure.

Boyko Borisov stated that Georgia can fully rely on the Bulgarian assistance during the project implementation.

The future of ferry traffic development was also discussed.

The Black Sea is a natural bridge between us that gives us unique possibilities… We are ready to fully use them, especially in the transport sphere,” Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said.

He also thanked the Bulgarian PM for supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia and its contribution to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.

He also congratulated Boyko Borisov on the 140th anniversary of the adoption of the first Constitution of Bulgaria.

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov stated that Georgia is an important partner of Bulgaria as it represents a door for eight countries that have no access to the sea.

We have planned to increase marine traffic and we also focus on infrastructural projects,” he said.

He also focused on Georgia’s large energy potential adding Georgia’s hydro resources may serve as a foundation for another innovative project.
