Progress made in EU integration, democratic reforms discussed during Georgian PM’s visit in Romania

Georgia’s progress on its European path and the country’s democratic reforms have been discussed by Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Calin Popescu Tariceanu, president of the Romanian Senate earlier today.

Bakhtadze and Tariceanu stated that the two countries have close political relations and stated that economic ties should also be strengthened.

The Georgian PM welcomed Romania’s support, as the European Council’s chair country, for Georgia and mentioned the importance of the Eastern Partnership initiative,” the Prime Minister’s press office reported.

After the meeting Bakhtadze was hosted by his Romanian colleague Viorica Dancila.

The anthems of the two countries were played during the meeting.

Bakhtadze raised the issue of occupation of Georgian territories during the press conference with Dancila. 

We have humanitarian catastrophe In the Georgian occupied regions. Our peace initiative aims to combat the catastrophe,” Bakhtadze stated.

He thanked Romania for its contribution to the European Union Monitoring Mission and reiterated that Russia continues its illegal activities in the historic regions of Georgia.
