Georgian embassy in Lithuania posts new sign - Sakartvelo Ambasada

After Lithuania recently changed the official name of Georgia in the Lithuanian language from Gruzija to Sakartvelo, the Georgian embassy has placed a new sign on its premises reading ‘Sakartvelo Ambasada’, or Embassy of Georgia in Lithuanian.
Sakartvelo is the Georgian name of the country, while the term Gruzija is of Russian origin.
The presentation ceremony of the new sign was attended by Georgian students from Lithuanian universities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The decision by the Lithuanian government to change the official Lithuanian term for Georgia marks the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Georgia.
Lithuania has made a historic decision and changed Georgia’s name in its language.From now on, the official title of Georgia will be Sakartvelo, not Gruzija.
Georgia’s capital Tbilisi is hosting a presentation of the first original translation of a collection of Caucasian folk legends by acclaimed 20th century Lithuanian prosaist Antanas Vienuolis later today.
Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze will pay his first one-day official visit to Lithuania on January 21.
"Our special relations are proved by the milestones celebrated last year - the 100th anniversary from the establishment of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia and the 100th Anniversary of Regained Statehood of Lietuva. Besides, our nations are now referred to by their authentic names - Sakartvelo and Lietuva,” Bakhtadze said, during apress conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Saulius Skvernelis.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated that his country is eager to share in the Lithuanian experience in terms of start-ups.
The Lithuanian government has sent essential medical supplies to combat the coronavirus to Georgia, Armenia and Moldova.
