Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili will debut at the Vienna State Opera as part of a line-up for the Verdi classic Aida at sold-out shows starting next week.
The award-winning singer will portray the principal role of Amneris in Nicolas Joel's production of Giuseppe Verdi's 1871-premiered work while partnered by Kristin Lewis, Jorge de Leon and Paolo Rumetz.
Rachvelishvili is recognised for her performances in Aida, an opera she has appeared in at venues and festivals including the Teatro Regio in Turin, Italy and the Choregies d'Orange festival in France.

Her performance in the Vienna State Opera shows will come at three dates between April 25-May 1, with all three events sold out.
Rising to international fame with her 2009 title role performance of Carmen at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, the singer also received critical acclaim from Huffington Post for a 2014 appearance in the same production at New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
Rachvelishvili's performances have also been hosted at other prominent international venues including Staatsoper Berlin and San Francisco Opera.
The acclaimed opera artist won the Best Female Singer Award poll from opera review website Bachtrack and was part of a concert celebrating France's National Day in Paris last year.
This year Rachvelishvili unveiled her first album, recorded with Sony Classical, and performed roles in major productions at Opera Roma and The Metropolitan Opera.
