French Embassy in Georgia has offered its condolences to the family of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili who died in detention in Georgia’s Russian occupied region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) last week.

France calls for the de facto authorities of South Ossetia to reveal the circumstances of Mr. Tatunashvili’s death,” the French Embassy said in a statement.

France also calls for de facto Ossetian officials to ensure a transparent investigation into the case together with the Georgian government through today's Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting held near the occupation line between Georgia and Tskhinvali.

The IPRM meeting was first initiated in February 2009 following the 2008 Russia-Georgia conflict to address security concerns and ensure the protection of human rights in the occupied regions.

The IPRM meeting is now underway in the village of Ergneti where the issue of Tatunashvili’s death and the detention of two others in occupied Tskhinvali is on the top of agenda.
