The Georgian Dream majority has initiated the adoption of a resolution over the recent death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in occupied Tskhinvali.

We think that we will initiate the resolution during the next plenary session.  The resolution text will cover many aspects, including the conducting of an international investigation over the case,” the majority leader Archil Talakvadze said.

Talakvadze believes that as the issue concerns the country’s occupation the resolution will be supported by the opposition.

Tatunashvili and two others were detained by occupant forces on February 22 in Akhalgori area, on the territory currently controlled by Russians.

Tskhinvali media reports that the reason for the detention was Tatunashvili’s participation in the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.

The individual died on the next day in unclear circumstances. The de-facto security service of Tskhinvali says that the reason of the death was heart failure.

The government of Georgia and the EU strongly condemned the case and urged for a fair investigation.

The two other people detained with Tatunashvili have been released from the Tskhinvali detention facility. However, they have been deprived of identification and transport documents.

An Incident Prevent and Response Mechanism meeting is ongoing now to address the death.
