The Georgian soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces have built a church named after St. Gobron on the Mazar-i-Sharif military base in Afghanistan.

Before constructing the church the Georgian soldiers could pray in a room specially allocated for the purpose.

The building of the church began in November 2017 and was completed in January 2018.

Soldiers from other nations assisted their Georgian colleagues in providing the necessary building materials, while the construction itself was carried out by Georgian soldiers.

The church has a yard and a memorial to Georgian soldiers killed in the peacekeeping mission, as well as a church tower.

The soldiers have planted trees in the yard.

Georgia contributes around 885 soldiers to the NATO peace mission in Afghanistan.
