Approximately 12,000 boxes of archived materials from film studio Mematiane are being restored within the framework of the project Chronicles of Georgia.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture, and is being carried out by film studios Mematiane [Geo. the Chronicler] and Georgian National Film Centre: ultimately, the project will restore films and visual documentary materials store on cinefilms, cleaning, sorting, determining the condition of and digitalising the materials.

The first stage of the project was carried out from 15 July to 30 November 2017, when 4,385 boxes of footage were restored.

Amongst the boxes, approximately 3,000 contain unidentified documentary materials from the years 1918 to 2000, including shots of the funeral of Davit Sarajishvili, chronicles of the Abkhaz war and other materials.

Once reviewed and digitalised, the materials will be transferred to a newly renovated special space within the building that belongs to the film studio Georgian Film. The storage space has been revamped by the film studio to meet special standards.
