The snow season has opened in Gudauri today while the resort also celebrates its 30th anniversary since being declared a mountainous resort.

Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze said the government wants to transform Gudauri into a world renowned resort soon and promised tourists that this season will be ‘unforgettable’.

The resort meets visitors with six new ski lifts this year. Three of them are on the Gudauri-Kobi part.

“This is very important that Gudauri and Stepantsminda will be unified in one cluster. This allows us to increase turnout four times as we have now. Consequently, tourists will be offered more convenient environment as they avoid the rows which had been disturbing during past years,” PM Bakhtadze said while attending the winter season opening ceremony in Gudauri today.

Furthermore, building of the water reservoir is also being finished in the resort and artificial snow making systems are developed to be used upon need.

As for the security measures, 82 new equipped patrol officers will be operating in Gudauri, Bakuriani and other ski resorts of Western Georgia this year.
