Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has voted today and called on voters throughout Georgia to go out to the polls.

“I am happy and proud to see that Georgian voters are actively making their choice. For some of them this could be a hard choice but I still want to call on every voter to come to the polling station, use their right to vote and play an important role in the formation of the government,” Margvelashvili said.

He said he is sure that the voters will be active during the day, which will guarantee a productive election runoff with less shortcomings than the previous round.

3,703 polling stations are open to voters since 8 a.m. for 3,528,658 voters in Georgia and abroad.

The public is voting between government-supported independent candidate Salome Zurabishvili and opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze from United National Movement, representing the Strength in Unity coalition.

In the first round of the presidential elections Salome Zurabishvili received 38.64 per cent of total votes, while Grigol Vashadze received 37.74 per cent of voters’ ballots. Public turnout was 45.4 per cent.
