Daniel Oren, an internationally renowned conductor who joined the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre as musical director, will lead two shows at the Georgian capital's venue over the next two weeks.
The Israeli conductor, Artistic Director of the Teatro Verdi in Salerno, Italy, will be in the orchestra pit for performances of Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem and Symphony No. 9 by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Leading the Tbilisi theatre's orchestra, Oren will set the stage for the venue's choir as well as Georgian opera soloists travelling from around the world to perform for the local audience.
The Requiem bill, set for November 10, will involve soprano Iano Alibegashvili, Nino Surguladze, Otar Jorjikia and Giorgi Andguladze in the cast.
For the follow-up evening of Beethoven's work, the same roster minus Jorjikia will be joined by Armaz Darashvili.
The two bills follow the maiden performances by Oren in his capacity of the Tbilisi theatre's musical director in January this year.
Joining the company, the conductor known particularly for his interpretations of works by Verdi and Giacomo Puccini directed the Tbilisi orchestra in a programme of overtures and opera pieces in the shows.
The Jaffa-born conductor has conducted at theatres including the Vienna Staatsoper, the Royal Opera House and New York’s Metropolitan.
He also worked at the Israeli Opera, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and Arena di Verona. Oren has released recordings with labels including Decca and Arthaus Musik.
