Georgian women’s team ends World Chess Olympiad with bronze

The Georgian women’s team has won the bronze medal at the 43rd World Chess Olympiad hosted at Batumi Sport Palace from 24 September to 5 October.

The Georgian team won the last match against Armenia 3:1, winning the bronze medal with a total of 17 points. Nana Dzagnidze and Lela Javakhishvili won, Nino Batsiashvili and Bela Khotenashvili played a tie.

The final result of the Georgian team depended on the competitors’ games: China ended the last game with a tie with Russia and became champion with 18 points. Ukraine also scored 18 points.

Georgia participated with six teams in the Olympiad – three women’s and three men’s.

The second women’s team gained 16 points and 9th place while the third received 13 points and 41st place.

The men’s teams have finished the Olympiad with 14, 13 and 13 points at 28th, 43rd and 51st places in the rating.
