PostEurop’s 34th plenary meeting discusses postal reforms in Tbilisi

Top officials from European postal service have gathered in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi to discuss postal reform, development plans and the possibility of strengthening cooperation between member states.
The meeting was held within the 34th plenary meeting of PostEurop, the association of European public postal operators, one of the constituent unions of the Universal Postal Union.
In addition, the Business Innovation Forum, supported by the Georgian Post, was held on 2-4 October which brought together over 100 international organisations involved in the postal business who will be participating.
Companies presented innovative projects and visions related to the postal business and logistics.
This year, the Business Innovation Forum has brought together a number of interesting postal start-ups, among them were successful companies who work in e-commerce, artificial intelligence, automation and digital marketing.
Georgian Economy Minister Giorgi Kobulia, who delivered his speech at the opening ceremony of the 34th plenary meeting yesterday, said that Georgia is interested in introducing innovations and new technologies in the country’s postal service.
He also highlighted the importance of the Business Innovation Forum and said that this forum is an opportunity for Georgian entrepreneurs and businessmen to establish new contacts, share experiences and expand their logistics plans.
Georgia is strengthening its e-commerce industry in order to stimulate what is quickly becoming one of the world’s most important tools of modern trade. A new electronic commerce platform will soon be launched in Georgia that will allow the local population, including small and medium businesses, to order or sell products and services in Georgia as well as abroad, the delivery of which will be carried out by the Georgian Post.
Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi is hosting the World Customs Organisation’s (WCO) conference and exhibition devoted to the exploration of modern information and communications technology.
Georgia is working hard to establish itself as a growing hub for information and communication technology (ICT).
Georgian and international experts are working together to develop an e-Georgia Development Strategy and turn Georgia into an IT-based governance state.
