All taxis driving in the streets of Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi will be required to be white, following a decision made by Tbilisi City Hall today.
New visual standards for taxis will be launched from 1 October 2019, which also prohibits providing taxi services with three-door and right-hand-drive vehicles.
“We are working on visual standards that will be mandatory from 1 October 2019. We have had lots of discussions about the colour. We have decided that the colour white will be mandatory for taxis. From October 2019, three-door vehicles as well as right-hand-drive vehicles will not be allowed to provide this service”, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.
Kaladze also said that special parking areas will be allocated in Tbilisi for licensed taxis and the drivers will be able to park taxi cabs free of charge.
Meanwhile, the registration of taxis is underway in Tbilisi. Taxi drivers are obliged to undergo registration by 1 November 2018.
Kaladze explained that drivers of unlicensed taxis will be fined 200 GEL.
“More than 6,200 licenses have been issued. Providing the service without a license will be impossible from 1 October”, Kaladze said.
