Grape harvest in Kakheti: over 142,000 tones of grapes picked so far

The grape harvest continues actively in Georgia’s eastern wine region of Kakheti, where as of today, about 142,000 tonnes of grape have already been processed.

As a result, the income of about 15,000 grape growers in Kakheti region has exceeded over 204 million GEL, announced the Georgian National Wine Agency.

About 214 wine companies are involved in grape processing.

We can already say that the grape harvest 2018 was successful for the Kakheti region. The grape harvest still continues in Kakheti and in the coming days it will start in Racha region also”, said deputy head of the Georgian National Wine Agency Andro Aslanishvili.

Local growers have processed the following grape varieties:

  • Saperavi – 66,500 tonnes
  • Rkatsiteli – 56,800 tonnes
  • Kakhuri Mtsvane – 2,700 tonnes

To date most grapes were processed in Kakheti’s Gurjaani municipality – 41,300 tonnes.
Followed by:

  • Kvareli – 40,000 tonnes
  • Telavi – 31,000 tonnes
  • Sighnaghi – 12,000 tonnes
  • Sagarejo – 5,000 tonnes
  • Dedoplistskaro – 4,700 tonnes
  • Akhmeta – 4,200 tonnes
  • Lagodekhi – 3,800 tonnes
