Weightlifter and Olympic champion Lasha Talakhadze has won the Georgian championship.

He is the champion of Georgia in the +105 kg category and has finished the championship with two world records beaten.

Talakhadze set a new world record back in 2017 at the World Weightlifting Championships, lifting 477 kg. This time his result was 478 kg.  As for the clean and jerk, he managed to lift 264 kg improving the historic result of Iranian Hossein Rezazadeh in 2004.

However, Talakhadze’s results will not be acknowledged as a world record this time as the Georgian championship is not included in the calendar of the International Weightlifting Federation. He will have another chance to set new records at the 2018 World Championship on November 1-10 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
