International consulting company to study labour conditions in Georgian coal mines

The German DMT Group will study the labour conditions in Georgian mines located in Tkibuli, western Georgia in the wake of a deadly blast earlier this year claiming the lives of four miners and leaving another six injured.
The Mindeli coal mine has been closed since the blast took place on 16 July 2018. The DMT Group will provide recommendations and its conclusions in five weeks, after which point a decision will me made whether or not to reopen the mine.
‘’Due to high public interest, the ministry has decided to choose the company with the best experience of studying labour safety conditions of this particular industry. We are already working on contract conditions and our goal is to start the investigation as soon as possible’', Minister of Internally Displaced from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia David Sergeenko said.
The Georgian government will pay 50,000 EUROs to the DMT Group for their services from the state budget.
The Georgian Professional Union says that in 2018 alone, 11 people have died in mining accidents and 10 received injuries.
The DMT Group has 150 years of experience in the mining, oil and gas industry.
