Vice Prime Minister of Georgia and Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia met with his Azerbaijani colleague Ramil Usubov yesterday to discuss cooperation prospects in terms of fighting against organised crime and drug trafficking.

Gakharia and Usubov also spoke about regional security and issues connected with the movement of tourists between the two countries.

“Strengthening control over drug trafficking is of critical importance to us. There are a number of challenges in this regard especially considering the Iran factor and we plan to deal with heroin trafficking from Iran jointly. Given the seriousness of this challenge I think that only transborder cooperation can be the solution,” Gakharia said, adding that it would be difficult for the countries separately to effectively fight against illegal transit and transport of illicit goods.
