MFA investigation: no illegalities committed against Iranian citizens at Tbilisi airport
The investigation was conducted after the MFA has been informed about compaints by Iranian citizens regarding security check procedures at Tbilisi Airport.

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs investigation asserts that no illegal actions, including the ‘insulting of religious feelings’ as a result of security checks, have been committed against Iranian citizens at Tbilisi International Airport.
The investigation was conducted after several Iranian citizens submitted complains about security check procedures at Tbilisi International Airport.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has investigated the [security check] procedures immediately. Preliminary results have not revealed any illegal actions from the side of the security officers and the Iranian side has been informed”, the MFA said today.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plan to hold a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Georgian to discuss the issue in more detail.

Holiday, leisure and recreation are the most common reasons for international travellers to travel to Georgia, while the next main purpose of the visit is visiting friends and relatives, show the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Georgia’s three international airports served 2,719,920 passengers in the first seven months of 2018, which is a 28 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).
Over one million international travellers (1,039,027) visited Georgia in July 2018 of which 564,977 were tourists, says the Georgian National Tourism Administration. Year-on-year, the number of international travellers increased by 10.5 percent, while the number of tourists increased by 15 percent.
Georgia’s Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili visited Iran on May 7 where he met with governmental officials to strengthen ties between Georgia and Iran.
The Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has detained seven citizens of Iran for illegal entrepreneurship in Georgia, receiving more than 2 million GEL as an unlawful income in one year.
