Foreign direct investments in 2017 amount to $1.88b

Foreign investors have been demonstrating growing interest in various fields of Georgia's economy, especially in the transport, communications, financial and construction sectors, show adjusted data of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Geostat published the adjusted data of 2017 and gave the corrected details about FDI inflow in Georgia.

The adjusted data show that in 2017 FDI in Georgia amounted to $1.88 billion, up 20.6 per cent from the same data of 2016 and up 1.4 per cent from the preliminary data of 2017.

The top three countries that invested the most in Georgia in 2017 were:

  • Azerbaijan: $482.1 million (24.6 percent)
  • The Netherlands (18.9 percent)
  • Turkey: $279 million (15.2 percent)

As for the FID by major economic sectors, in 2017 the largest share of FID was allocated in these sectors:

  • Transport and communications: 489.2 million
  • Financial sector: $302.6 million
  • Construction: $284.8 million
