I recall this tragedy with grief. Naturally, this period is full of sorrowful recollections. Today, we pay tribute to those who did not spare their lives for the territorial integrity and freedom of our country. . . I am grateful to all those who fought on the battlefield and those who did not lose faith during the occupation period,” said Marhvelashvili at a special activity organised in Gori.

Meanwhile, last night Margvelashvili also awarded reporters killed in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war with order of Honour. The award ceremony was held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Georgian-Russian war and it was attended by the family members of the fallen journalists, representatives of the government, diplomatic corps, civil society and the media.
Today we underline the contribution of the journalists who sacrificed their lives to the truth and showing the truth is one of the main battlefields in the modern world”, Margvelashvili said yesterday.
The order of honour was awarded to these reporters: Giga Chikhladze, an editor for Alania TV, a special correspondent for the French radio RFI and a reporter for the NEWSWEEK magazine in Georgia, Stan Storimans, a Dutch RTL TV cameraman and Alexander Klimchuk, who worked as a photo reporter of Itar-Tass agency.
