Seven detained for Tkibuli Mindeli mine accident

Seven individuals who have been detained as a result of the tragedy in the Tkibuli Mindeli mine on April 5 this year have been officially charged, announces Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The investigation found that the detainees had violated the requirements of "technical regulations on safety of coal mines" that prohibits work in shafts where safety rules are violated. Despite the fact that the detainees knew about the violation of the safety rules in the Tkibuli Mindeli Mine and specifically they knew that the ceiling was not fortified in the mine, they still launched mining works in February 2018”, read the announcement of the ministry.

As a result, the director of Mindeli mine, the chief engineer of the mine, the manager of the mine and others responsible flr the accident were detained.

On April 5, six miners died and three were injured as the ceiling collapsed at the Mindeli coal mine in the town of Tkibuli in the west of Georgia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues an investigation into the fatal incident at Tkibuli Mindeli Mine that happened on July 16, 2018 and which claimed the lives of four miners and left six others with severe injuries.
