"I have expressed my personal willingness to see Georgia as a political part of the European Union in the future. Of course, I am speaking about full membership”, Latvian Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Andrejs Mamikins said after his meeting with Georgian PM Mamuka Bakhtadze yesterday.
Mamikins arrived in Tbilisi on July 23 to prepare a report on the implementation of the European Union Association Agreement by Georgia.
Mamikins and Bakhtadze discussed past and pending reforms in Georgia, along with the significant success of the implementation of the Association Agreement (AA) between the EU and Georgia.
Mamikins noted at the meeting that Georgia has attained impressive progress in many directions, thus serving as a role model for European countries. Mamikins also praised the socio-economic policy of the government of Georgia. In his opinion, the current cabinet of ministers stands ready to pursue the pro-European vector in domestic and international policies and to protect its people.
Bakhtadze expressed his gratitude to Mamikins for the resolution ‘On Georgian occupied territories 10 years after the Russian invasion’ which was endorsed by the European Parliament, which supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, condemns the occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Regions by the Russian Federation and calls on EU member states to enforce sanctions to individuals referred in the Otkhozoria-Tatunashvili List.
