Director Mariam Chachia's award-winning work Listen to the Silence will be among documentaries from around the world screening at the Budapest International Documentary Festival launching in Hungary's capital today.

Chachia's feature will be part of the festival's official competition and screen for the audience on Wednesday and Thursday.

Even though it's very difficult for him to understand and learn the rhythm of the music, he never gives up. The film Listen to The Silence observes Luka’s life in the hidden world of this deaf society", said the festival's preview of the feature.

The Georgian filmmaker was praised by DOK Leipzig organisers for choosing "a stunningly simple form for her tale of this unlikely place" in the work, her second documentary.

With production and cinematography by Nik Voigt, the film was also screened at the 2016 Tbilisi International Film Festival and 2017 CineDOC-Tbilisi International Documentary Film Festival.="http:>

Films screened at the Budapest International Documentary Festival will be assessed by a jury team of five international judges, who will be awarding one feature and one short work.

The audience attending the event will also have an opportunity to reveal their winner, with student and pensioner jury teams also picking favourites.

The festival will run in Budapest through January 28.
