The Watou Art Festival, an annual event bringing visual artists and poets to a Belgian border town near France, is exhibiting an installation by Georgian contemporary artist Vajiko Chachkhiani within its space.

Living Dog Among Dead Lions, an installation by the creative, is displayed for visitors at the festival centred around the theme "On longing and consolation” this year.

Visitors of the 38th edition of the celebration of art can see the installation, which was created to convey the effects of social, political and historical circumstances on people.

It represents a wooden shack with few objects inside and simulated rain leaking through its roof. It was originally discovered by the artist near the mining town of Chiatura in Georgia’s west.

Moved from its original location, the house is now subjected to wear and effects of natural phenomena and the leaking water.

The conditions are aimed to place the construction under effects — including moss expected to start growing under the leaks and colour of interior items fading with time — to create a its narrative through time.

Chachkhiani exhibited the work at last year’s Venice Art Biennial after winning a Georgian national competition for the winning entry in 2016.

The Berlin-based creative is a graduate of Berlin's University of Arts and Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Recent exhibitions featuring the Georgian artist’s work include the group display WAITING — Between Power and Possibility, hosted at Hamburger Kunsthalle, one of Germany’s largest art venues.

He was also picked to exhibit at the 2017 Istanbul Biennial, a highly anticipated art event.

The Watou festival, which hosts both up-and-coming talent and well-established artists in its annual editions, will run through September 2.
