Pieces and materials for the ATLAS experiment of global importance are being made in Georgia, announces the Ministry of Education and Science.

ATLAS is a particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at the European Center for Nuclear Studies (CERN) that is searching for new discoveries in the head-on collisions of protons of extraordinarily high energy.

ATLAS will learn about the basic forces that have shaped our universe since the beginning of time.

Nine-meter diameter radiation protective aluminum pieces are manufactured on the industrial base of Elita Burji, whose main activity is constructing pieces and producing materials necessary for ATLAS.

The process of manufacturing the pieces is monitored by scientists of Georgian Technical University.

A shipment of materials and pieces will be sent to CERN in Geneva today, where the structure will be developed and linked to the Large Hadron Collider which is part of the ATLAS experiment.
