Britain’s Sheffield Doc/Fest Documentary Festival will host the world premiere of director Mari Gulbiani’s feature Before Father Gets Back starting this week.

A winner of the Georgian National Film Centre production contest, the work will be screened at what is recognised as one of major European documentary film events in England’s north.

Gulbiani will introduce viewers at the festival to the story of two girls in Georgia’s north-eastern Pankisi Gorge.

Brought up in the region where political and social tension has often reached boiling point over decades, the two Muslim friends discover a local cinema screening as a window to freedom.

[For] Iman and Eva [...] the experience becomes a turning point and inspires them to take the camera and start filming their daily lives”, says a preview by the British festival.

Produced by Tekla Machavariani, the work is a co-production between Georgia, France and Germany.

The 80-minute film will be screened on June 8 and 10 within the Doc/Adventure section of the event in Sheffield.
