1,260 Georgian citizens have been returned to their home country from the EU/Schengen area over the course of January-April of this year.

As the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports, they received 1290 applications about readmission from January 1st to April 30th while 1260 of them were confirmed and only 30 rejected.

The majority of repatriated citizens (854) have been returned from Germany, following France (105), Netherlands (102), Austria (88), Sweden (29) and Greece (21).

Since the transportation costs are covered by the requesting country, the repatriated Georgian citizens’ costs have been covered by EU member countries.

The agreement between the European Union and Georgia on the readmission of persons residing without authorisation defines procedures to be applied in case of readmission to their homeland of persons illegally residing on the territory of a foreign country.
