New Wine Festival being held in Tbilisi

The Georgian Wine Club is hosting its ninth New Wine Festival at Mtatsminda Park today.
Fans of Georgian wine are welcome at Mtatsminda Park to taste the new harvest wines from large and medium companies, as well as from small wineries and family wine cellars from 11 am to 6 pm.
The festival will open with the traditional ceremony of qvevri opening, accompanied by the Georgian folk song Mravaljamieri.
Traditionally, the qvevri will be full of the best wine from a family winery, carefully selected by the Wine Club.
Aiming to promote Georgian wine, improve wine education and enhance consumption culture in Georgia, the New Wine Festival has been held since 2010, attracting an increased number of visitors year by year. The festival brought together over 200 participants last year.
Wineries of all size, wine professionals, wine writers, wine bars and restaurants, and wine enthusiasts make arrangements for this event annually.
After the judges have tasted all the samples the winners will be revealed next month. The competition was open exclusively to qvevri wine producers from all countries and wine regions in the world.
Georgia exported 17.7 million bottles of wine to 43 countries in the first quarter of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency. In January-March 2018 Georgia generated about $40.47 million from the sale of wine abroad.
A Georgian wine tasting and seminar was held in Warsaw, the capital of Poland this week, the Georgian National Wine Agency has announced. The event which was attended by journalists, importers and wine writers tasted wines from nine Georgian wine companies.
Georgia exported 25 million bottles of wine to 43 countries in the first four months of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency. In January-April of 2018 Georgia generated about $59.2 million from the sale of wine abroad. In the reporting period 147 companies exported their wines abroad.
Around 500 hectares of vineyards in Kakheti have been affected by a recent bout of stormy weather.
Georgian Wine Festival 2019 will be held for the third time in Tbilisi, on Shardeni Street on October 12.
