One of Georgia’s key priorities is the membership of the European Union (EU) and NATO, and now the country has an official document to guide it to these goals.

The Georgian government approved the Government Communication Strategy on Georgia's Membership to the EU and NATO for 2017-2020 at today’s governmental meeting.

The document, developed by the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, features both what Georgia should do on a national level and what steps the country should take in the international arena.

According to the document, the main aspect on the national level is to raise awareness of Georgian citizens regarding the EU and NATO, and counter Russian propaganda.

"We have on multiple occasions stated that we don’t fight propaganda with propaganda. We use civil, western and proper methods to tackle propaganda, and this method is raising awareness and providing people with more information about what benefits the EU and NATO membership brings, why NATO and why the EU, and why not, for example, the Eurasian Union”, said State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Victor Dolidze.
"We want everyone to know how we can let our children receive better education, how to implement more economic and investment projects and how to become a more stable country economically, energetically and politically”, he added.

Another part of the Communication Strategy defines what actions Georgia should carry out in order to receive more support from its foreign partners for the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

"This is a conceptual framework document, and all other action plans of all relevant state institutions will be built on it”, Dolidze said.

In December of 2016 the Georgian parliament adopted the Resolution on Foreign Policy of Georgia and stated that European and Euro-Atlantic integration is the country’s top foreign priority.
