Authorities raise importance of Anaklia Deep Sea Port project with diplomats

Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze and founder of Anaklia Development Consortium Mamuka Khazaradze met the diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia and introduced them to the development of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project today.

Representatives of the financial organisations also attended the meeting.

At the meeting Janelidze and Khazaradze highlighted the importance of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project to the diplomats, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

The Government of Georgia continues to work to make Georgia a real logistic hub in the region. The Anaklia Deep Sea Port project is a very important project that creates new opportunities in the region,” said Janelidze.
Along with the already existing transit infrastructure, we create additional opportunities for additional freight turnover that will come in the corridor in the next few years. We want international companies and our partner countries to be maximally involved in the corridor development process,” he added.

Construction works of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port is starting this month. The opening of the first phase of the port and receiving the ships in Anaklia is planned for 2021.

The Anaklia Deep Sea Port development will be separated into nine phases. At the end of the final phase the Anaklia Deep Sea Port must be able to handle 100 million tonnes of cargo per year.

Spread over 400 hectares and boasting access to a deep sea canyon, Anaklia Port’s mission is to create a new, faster maritime corridor between China and Europe, helping restore the historic Silk Road.

The Anaklia Deep Sea Port development will be separated into nine phases and its investment cost is $2.5 billion. The Anaklia Development Consortium is responsible for building the largest port in Georgia.

Besides the Anaklia Deep Sea Port a city Anaklia and special economic zone will also be developed at the area.
